OX2 acquires 200 MW/800 MWh Italy BESS portfolio from Hanwha Energy Europe

Swedish renewable energy developer OX2 has acquired two standalone BESS projects, each rated at 100 MW/400 MWh, from Hanwha Energy Europe. The projects will be built in Lecce province in Italy’s southern Puglia region.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027, with commercial operations expected by the end of 2028.

OX2 entered the Italian market in 2021 and has since built a 1.5 GW renewable energy development pipeline in the country, comprising about 750 MW of solar, 650 MW of standalone battery storage and 100 MW of onshore wind. The company said about 98% of its solar portfolio consists of agrivoltaic projects.

The company’s first completed Italian project, the Maia wind farm in Puglia, entered commercial operation in 2025. OX2 told pv magazine Italia that it does not expect to commission any additional Italian projects this year.

Hanwha Energy Europe was advised on the transaction by Gitti and Partners and L&B Partners. OX2 was advised by Green Horse Legal Advisory and BDO.
