D.TRADING, the energy trading unit of Ukraine’s DTEK Group, and Finnish battery optimizer Capalo AI said they have started working together to offer structured revenue arrangements for battery energy storage and hybrid renewable projects in Europe, combining D.TRADING’s offtake capabilities with Capalo AI’s multi-market trading platform.
Under the partnership, D.TRADING will act as the contractual counterparty and offtaker, providing fixed revenue structures and credit support, while Capalo AI will provide market access and trade assets across day-ahead, intraday and ancillary service markets through its Zeus VPP platform, the companies said.
Asset owners will enter a single contractual relationship with D.TRADING while drawing on both companies’ capabilities, according to the release.
The companies said the offering supports standalone BESS and hybrid renewable projects under multiple commercial structures, including merchant, floor-and-upside-share and tolling agreements.
Dmytro Sakharuk, the CEO of D.TRADING, said battery storage is becoming fundamental to how Europe balances its power system and integrates renewable energy, and that the partnership aims to give developers and investors greater revenue certainty without limiting their assets’ market potential.
Henri Taskinen, CEO and co-founder of Capalo AI, said the partnership removes a trade-off battery storage projects often face between multi-market optimization and the revenue certainty lenders require, combining D.TRADING’s financial strength with Zeus VPP’s trading capabilities across day-ahead, intraday and ancillary markets.
The partnership will initially target battery storage projects in the Balkans, with potential expansion into wider Central, Eastern and South-Eastern European markets where both companies have an established presence, the companies said.
Capalo AI manages 1.6 GW of batteries and 460 MWp of solar under its Zeus VPP platform, of which 600 MW and 300 MWp are already live under trading and optimization, according to the company. It operates in six European markets – Bulgaria, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Sweden – and plans to expand into Estonia, Greece, Portugal and Spain in 2026.
The Helsinki-based company recently agreed to trade and optimize two Baltic hybrid solar-storage projects for Danish developer European Energy in Lithuania and Latvia, and separately announced a partnership earlier this month with Future Energy to optimize a 56 MW/168 MWh standalone battery storage project in Raseiniai, Lithuania – one of the country’s first commercial battery systems capable of storing and supplying power for up to three hours. The Raseiniai project, delivered by EPC contractor MT Group and valued at more than €30 million ($34.8 million), is expected to reach commercial operation in the first quarter of 2027.
