Juniper Green Energy has expanded the Bikaner-II project in Rajasthan, India, with 100 MWh of additional BESS capacity, bringing the site’s commissioned storage capacity to 201 MWh.
The additional capacity was commissioned through the company’s wholly owned subsidiary, Juniper Green Cosmic, within the project’s existing grid connectivity.
The company said the recently issued regulatory clarity from the Central Transmission Utility of India Ltd. allows addition of storage capacity without increasing the grid connectivity quantum, thereby ensuring optimal utilization of existing transmission infrastructure. This allows the company to add incremental storage capacity in a capital-efficient manner.
The capacity will initially operate on a merchant basis, enabling Juniper Green to participate in India’s evolving energy storage market and capture value from the growing requirement for flexibility and grid balancing.
“Commissioning an additional 100 MWh of BESS within the existing grid connectivity at Bikaner-II is a strong example of how we are looking to maximise the value of our existing infrastructure,” said Ankush Malik, whole-time director and CEO of Juniper Green Energy. “Taking the project’s commissioned storage capacity to 201 MWh gives us additional merchant capacity without requiring incremental grid connectivity, creating a new avenue to participate in the power market. We see this approach as an important part of building a more commercially flexible storage portfolio alongside our long-term contracted renewable assets.”
Juniper Green Energy Ltd. is an independent renewable energy power producer in India, focused on the development, construction, and operation of utility-scale solar, wind, hybrid, and firm and dispatchable renewable energy projects. It has an operational capacity of approximately 2.7 GWp and 603 MWh BESS and a total portfolio (including operational, under-construction, contracted, and awarded projects) of more than 11 GWp and 8.9 GWh BESS.
