German battery storage developer and operator Green Flexibility is developing six large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Lower Saxony with a combined capacity of 120 MW/480 MWh.
The Kempten-based company has signed flexible grid connection agreements with German network operator EWE Netz for the six projects, allowing them to operate within dynamic grid constraints while maintaining a grid-neutral operating profile.
The agreements are intended to make more efficient use of existing grid capacity, avoid additional network stress and support the integration of renewable energy in the region.
The six BESS projects are located in Lindern, Bad Bederkesa, Hagen im Bremischen, Esterwegen, Bremervörde and Zeven.
Most of the projects are ready for construction, while work on some is expected to begin this year. Green Flexibility plans to commission all six systems in 2027 and 2028.
Lienert said the six projects will add flexibility to Lower Saxony’s electricity grid while ensuring that the storage systems are designed around local network requirements.
The flexible connection agreements, known as flexible connection agreements (FCA), allow the batteries to adjust their operation according to available grid capacity.
Similar arrangements are being used elsewhere in Germany. Developer Eco Stor has published a public dashboard showing how its 103 MW battery storage system in Schleswig-Holstein optimizes its operation within dynamic grid limits.
