A consortium led by Wuhan Tianyuan Group Co., Ltd. has won a CNY 3.64 billion ($535 million) equipment supply and installation tender for a 1 GW / 4 GWh shared energy storage project in Lingwu, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, northwest China.
The Shenzhen-listed company confirmed on October 26 that it had received the formal award notice from project owner Lingwu Huaxin Comprehensive Energy Service Co., Ltd., following the publication of the winning bid between October 21 and October 23.
The consortium also includes Inner Mongolia Yinhe Electric Power Installation Engineering Co., Ltd. and Ningxia Communications Construction Co., Ltd. Wuhan Tianyuan will serve as the lead contractor, although the companies have not disclosed how responsibilities or contract revenues will be divided among the three members.
Located in Baituogang Township, Lingwu, the project will have a rated power capacity of 1,000 MW and an energy storage capacity of 4,000 MWh, equivalent to four hours of storage at full output.
According to the original tender documentation, the development will include a new 330 kV step-up substation and approximately 4 km of transmission infrastructure connecting the facility to the 330 kV side of the existing Lingzhou 750 kV substation.
The integrated contract covers equipment procurement, engineering design, civil construction, installation, commissioning, grid connection and project acceptance, together with associated technical services and warranty obligations.
The winning bid translates to approximately CNY 0.91/Wh ($0.134/Wh). However, this figure covers equipment and construction-related services rather than battery equipment alone. The project owner has not disclosed the battery chemistry, cell suppliers or detailed system configuration.
Under the tender requirements, the project is expected to obtain its grid connection notice by April 30, 2027. Final project acceptance is subject to a 15-month construction schedule, with a deadline of October 30, 2027. The contract also specifies a two-year warranty period following acceptance.
The contract represents a potentially substantial addition to Wuhan Tianyuan’s energy storage business. The company reported revenue of approximately CNY 1.71 billion in 2025, meaning the total consortium bid is equivalent to more than twice its annual revenue.
However, Wuhan Tianyuan cautioned that itww had not signed a formal contract as of October 26. The amount attributable to the listed company will depend on subsequent agreements among consortium members, while final payment terms and settlement arrangements remain subject to negotiation.
The company also highlighted uncertainties associated with project execution, including possible changes to contractual terms, delays or termination arising from unforeseen events. The project’s scale and construction timetable could also create procurement, working capital and delivery risks.
Wuhan Tianyuan has been expanding its energy storage activities alongside its established environmental engineering operations. Earlier in October, a subsidiary signed a CNY 195 million equipment supply and installation contract for a 75 MW/300 MWh storage expansion project in Ningxia’s Ningdong energy and chemical industrial base.
Founded in 2009 and listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2021, Wuhan Tianyuan operates across water treatment, waste management, environmental equipment and renewable energy development.
The Lingwu project forms part of the growing pipeline of grid-scale shared energy storage developments in Ningxia, where increasing wind and solar generation is creating demand for additional grid flexibility. Such facilities can provide balancing capacity for multiple renewable energy projects, although the Lingwu plant’s specific operating and revenue arrangements have not yet been disclosed.
