Lingtech launches 3 MW/6 MWh grid-forming battery storage system

Chinese battery manufacturer Lingtech has unveiled a new BESS for utility-scale projects and large C&I applications. The 6 MWh/3 MW grid-forming BESS provides 3 MW of nominal AC output.

“The core of the system lies in its ability to mimic the inertia response of traditional synchronous generators, that is, its grid-forming technology (GFM),” said the company. “It provides primary frequency regulation, voltage support, and black-start capability to restart the grid in the event of a total blackout.”

Lingtech said the system operates as a controlled voltage source that can independently establish and maintain grid voltage and frequency.

The BESS uses LFP battery cells with intelligent liquid cooling. It measures 6,058 mm × 2,896 mm × 2,438 mm, weighs 27,000 kg and operates at ambient temperatures ranging from -30 C to 50 C and elevations of up to 4,000 meters. It has an IP55 protection rating and a C3 anti-corrosion rating.

“The system supports PV integration, ensuring that solar panels continue to charge the battery and power loads even when the main utility grid is down. This eliminates the ‘curtailment’ issue where solar generation is wasted during outages,” said the company. “It supports seamless connection and switching between PV, the main grid, diesel generators, and the BESS itself. This hybrid capability allows for microgrid formation and ensures maximum uptime for critical loads.”
