Spanish software company Optimize Energy has launched a new version of its OptiBESS battery energy storage system (BESS) simulation platform, adding an integrated financial analysis module that combines technical modeling with revenue and project economics. The company said the platform has been used to analyze more than 2 GW of projects across Spain, Portugal and Italy.
Optimize Energy said the updated platform supports standalone and hybrid BESS projects, allowing users to model different power ratings, storage durations, degradation profiles and efficiency assumptions while using proprietary or third-party electricity price curves.
The company said battery storage projects require a different modeling approach than conventional renewable energy assets because project value depends on operational decisions such as charging, discharging and reserving capacity for balancing and ancillary services.
According to Optimize Energy, OptiBESS uses algorithms based on the company’s experience operating renewable energy and battery storage assets in electricity markets. The latest version also adds greater transparency by allowing users to examine expected hourly battery behavior and understand how operating decisions are generated.
The new financial module combines technical simulation with revenue forecasting and economic analysis in a single environment, allowing users to compare project configurations while supporting investment and financing decisions.
Optimize Energy CEO Rafael Calleja said the platform’s simulations are based on the company’s day-to-day experience operating assets in electricity markets rather than on theoretical models, using the same logic applied to its managed portfolios.
