Solar has become a major component of Western Australia’s energy mix and Perth-based battery manufacturer Renoz Energy says pairing those solar panels with battery energy storage is increasingly helping to address energy security challenges in urban fringe and regional markets.
“WA is nation-leading in its adoption of batteries and is undergoing a significant transformation as advancing technology, improving affordability, and reducing reliance on traditional energy sources unlocks energy independence,” Renoz Energy CEO Simon Chan said, adding the company has witnessed a spike in enquiries and installs as property owners seek to improve energy reliability. “In particular, we’re experiencing rising demand from property owners in peri-urban and regional settings that either aren’t connected to the grid, are edge-of-grid or are looking for greater resilience and long-term cost savings.”
Renoz Energy, which provides Australian-designed energy storage solutions for residential and commercial applications, said solar backed by batteries allows for on-site generation to be stored and used after the sun goes down, increasing energy security and flexibility.
Chan said a recently commissioned system installed at a home – that doubles as a commercial flower farm and nursery – in Perth’s hills highlights how integrated solar and battery energy storage system is revolutionizing energy access in rural and regional areas.
Renoz partnered with Perth-based solar installation company Gala Energy Systems on the project that combined 18 kW of solar with 32 kW inverters and 50 kWh of Renoz LV Stackable batteries to power the home and business simultaneously. This includes pumping water though a significant irrigation network on site.
Chan said the system has already demonstrated its benefits, continuing to power operations even as a major storm event ripped through the area last month.
“While much of the surrounding area was affected by outages caused by the one-in-50-year storm hitting the region, the newly commissioned system maintained 100% uptime ensuring both the home and businesses power supply remained uninterrupted,” he said.
Chan said the project is part of a growing trend among regional and agricultural business operators seeking energy security for household and business purposes.
“Renoz batteries have been used in a series of regional jobs in WA and Queensland where property owners are looking for greater energy resilience, lowering reliance on diesel and alternative energy generation and storage,” he said, adding that customers are also seeking to future proof their systems by boosting the size of their battery. “Demand for larger systems is emerging, with our average BESS install size this year standing at 50 kWh systems, which allow for greater flexibility and resilience in challenging conditions.”
Chan said Renoz Energy, which recently surpassed 1 MWh of battery sales, has in recent months shifted much of its focus towards the peri-urban and regional markets, noting this is where the company can make its biggest impact.
“We’ve pivoted to providing value in this market, enabling businesses and property owners to reshape the economics of on-farm power and take greater control of operating costs,” he said.
