Serfimex Capital has agreed to provide financing for solar, BESS, and energy efficiency projects in Quintana Roo, Mexico, under an agreement with the state government targeting 50 installations through 2027.
Financing will be provided through Serfimex Solar for renewable energy and efficiency investments across the Mexican state.
For solar projects, financing will be available for PV installations with investments starting at MXN 1 million and capacities of up to 0.7 MW. The financing schemes include terms of up to 72 months, options without upfront payments, grace periods for principal payments, and fixed or variable interest rates.
For BESS, Serfimex said financing will not be subject to a capacity limit. The company will also provide developers with tools to model the financial returns of storage projects.
Serfimex said eligible renewable energy equipment may qualify for Mexico’s tax incentives for machinery and equipment used in renewable power generation, subject to applicable requirements.
The agreement also includes technical and financial training programs and events for installers, developers, and companies. More than 50 integrators from Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula attended the signing event.
Quintana Roo Secretary of Ecology and Environment Óscar Alberto Rébora Aguilera said financing remains one of the main barriers preventing solar projects from moving forward and that the agreement aims to support investment in distributed generation, storage, and energy efficiency.
Serfimex Capital President Carlos Kamkhaji Ambe said the company works with more than 800 integrators across Mexico and has supported approximately MXN 1.3 billion in clean energy investments. The company currently finances more than 150 clean energy projects in the country.
According to the state government, Quintana Roo has favorable conditions for solar generation, with more than half of its territory receiving direct normal irradiation above 5.0 kWh/m² per day and some coastal areas reaching up to 6.0 kWh/m² per day.
Data from Mexico’s Energy Regulatory Commission cited by the state government shows distributed generation capacity in Quintana Roo increased from 376 kW in 2017 to 71.66 MW by the end of the first quarter of 2024, with 8,820 interconnection contracts recorded at that time.
The government also highlighted rising electricity demand in the Yucatán Peninsula, with projections from Mexico’s National Energy Control Center indicating average annual growth of 3.9% through 2028 and 3.6% toward 2037.
Quintana Roo said expanding distributed generation and storage could help reduce reliance on fossil-fuel-based electricity from other regions while supporting demand from tourism, industry, and urban areas.
