Battery storage provider RCT Power GmbH has entered provisional insolvency proceedings, according to a notice from the Freiburg District Court in Germany.
The insolvency application was filed by Managing Director Pei-Fen Hsiso, who succeeded long-serving managing director Thomas Hauser in November 2025.
The insolvency notice states that RCT Power can no longer access its bank accounts or outstanding receivables. Administrative and disposal authority has been transferred to the provisional insolvency administrator. Employee wages and salaries are initially protected through Germany’s insolvency benefit system.
RCT Power’s most recently publicly available annual financial statements, for 2024, show that the company had almost €61 million ($69.9 million) in liabilities to other companies, according to financial data platform North Data. The company recorded profits between 2019 and 2023, but reported a net loss in 2024.
Customer complaints about RCT Power had increased in recent months. The company, founded in 2015 and headquartered in Konstanz, reportedly struggled to replace or repair equipment.
According to information obtained by pv magazine, the company also faced problems with trading partners. Enerix recently terminated a contract with RCT Power because outstanding payments could not be settled, according to the report. Enerix declined to comment on the matter when contacted by pv magazine.
RCT Power’s residential photovoltaic battery storage systems have repeatedly performed strongly in HTW Berlin’s annual Energy Storage Inspection in recent years. The company also supplies battery storage systems for commercial applications.
At this year’s The smarter E Europe trade show, RCT Power signed a strategic joint venture agreement with Chinese company Hyperstrong. The partnership focused on expanding existing battery production capacity in Malaysia.
The insolvency proceedings now put RCT Power’s future operations, including its residential and commercial battery storage business, under review.
