One of Europe’s largest renewable companies, Statkraft, has signed a 10-year tolling agreement with global developer Greenvolt Power. The deal, which covers the two significant projects in Poland, namely the Ełk (200 MW/800 MWh) and Turośń Kościelna (200 MW/800 MWh) projects, is located in the north-east of the country in Nowa Wieś Ełcka and Turośń Kościelna, respectively.
It marks one of the largest public BESS agreements in Europe, and is Statkraft’s first large-scale BESS contract in the Polish market.
The structure of a tolling agreement gives “Statkraft the right to decide when the batteries charge and discharge across energy and flexibility markets,” the companies said. This toll structure provides Greenvolt with predictable long-term revenue, in addition to revenue from Poland’s capacity market which starts in 2028 for the Turośń Kościelna project.
Tolling wasn’t required to finance the construction, build, and asset purchases, with Greenvolt securing financing from UniCredit comprising EUR 153 million in bridge facilities and a EUR 65 million guarantee facility back in August.
Turośń Kościelna was inaugurated in July 2026, while Ełk is expected to reach commercial operation shortly. BYD Energy Storage supplied the actual battery energy storage systems, and while not specified, they appear in photos as the BYD MC-Cube T option.
