Independent power producer R.Power has said its Scornicesti BESS has now entered the final phase of construction, with foundations laid and deployment of all 46 battery containers, along with 23 containerized MV transformers.
The 127 MW project stands as one of the largest BESS assets in Central and Eastern Europe and is set to enter operation in the coming months, and is located in Olt County, near the border with Bulgaria.
EPC contractor Parapet, working with R.Power’s in-house EPC management team, began the build in spring 2026, and is readying to be connected to Romania’s Transelectrica and the high-voltage national transmission grid.
R.Power secured a €46 million financing package for the project in June 2026, with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) providing €44 million in investment and bridge financing, while Polish development bank Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) issued a €2.3 million bank guarantee to secure the long-term optimisation contract in place with regional trading partner GEN-I. Total project cost according to EBRD information was €67 million.
The project, located in Olt County, is co-owned through a JV with France’s Eiffel Investment Group, after a 49.99% stake was sold to the Eiffel in October last year.
R.Power’s BESS portfolio in operations and under construction currently stands at 0.9 GW / 3 GWh, with an additional 0.7 GW / 2.8 GWh of commercialised, ready-to-build projects.
