Utex New Energy has signed an agreement to establish a BESS assembly plant with an annual capacity of 20 GWh in Nagpur, Maharashtra, with ENcore Systems serving as the technology partner.
The facility will be developed in two phases, starting with an annual capacity of 5.5 GWh and scaling up to 20 GWh over the next one to two years, according to the company.
The plant will feature a fully automated production line equipped with industrial robots from Germany-based KUKA. It will be designed to handle battery cells with capacities of up to 628 Ah. Quality checks will cover every stage, from incoming materials to in-process inspections and final product testing.
Production will be managed through a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) integrated with SAP, providing real-time visibility into production output, quality, traceability, and operational performance.
ENcore Systems, a system integration company, will provide technology solutions for the plant’s battery assembly operations. The company specialises in turnkey, fully automated and semi-automated solutions for lithium-ion battery manufacturing, covering cell-to-module and module-to-pack assembly.
“ENcore Systems will play a key role as the technology partner in setting up the plant. The partnership will bring together technology and manufacturing expertise to establish the production facility. The focus will be on building a reliable, automated manufacturing setup that supports quality control, production monitoring, and the planned expansion of capacity,” stated Utex.
